irritable new born not feeding well...
1. Is your newborn not moving one of the limbs well? Is the baby not feeding well and is (s)he irritable? This could be the start of a bone & joint infection, which if nipped in the bud can avoid a permanent loss of joint function & bone deformity.

limping toddler...
2. Is your toddler walking with a limp and you feel that one limb seems shorter? Do you also feel that one thigh does not move out as much as the other? One may be dealing with a hip dislocation which if dealt with early can lead to a normal hip development.

limp without pain...
3. Is your 5 year old child walking with a limp without pain since a few weeks? You may not remember any hurt or fever. This could be the start of a hip problem called Perthes disease which requires attention as soon as possible to obtain the best outcome in the future.

bow legs or knock knees in growing child...
4. Is your growing child developing an increasing bowing of the legs or prominent knock-knees over the last few months? Did your child get hurt a few months ago on the knees, which required some treatment then? This could be the result of damage to the growth plate of the long bone around the knee resulting in an asymmetrical growth of that bone over time.

head or trunk asymmetry...
5. Is your child having an asymmetry over the head or trunk, which is more visible when standing and walking? Is this asymmetry getting more prominent over the past few months? This could be an initial stage of an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine called scoliosis which is developing and progressing, and needs to be investigated and treated as early as possible.
Signs of concern
How do you pick out problems? Some deformities are obvious and are easy to see. What is important is to be aware of the ones whose manifestations are subtle.
